entrances at other stations will close at normal times. skins in the postseason would mean good news for prince george's county. every time they play at home, the county gets an economic boost of $5 million. >> there is a 5% county hotel tax. so visitors that spend the night here will contribute to our economy as well. >> the county plans its budget with some presumed revenue from games, but postseason play is bonus money. the profits come for the businesses, too. this kind of success gets people to buy merchandise even if they wouldn't normally do it. >> i'm going to wear my jersey and i'm going to hang out with him, and i'm going to cheer loud, like i've been a fan all my life. >> this is for my sister-in- law. i hope it's on tv and she sees

it. we have a wager tonight. i'm preparing for the wager loss. >> won't be surprised to learn that rg3's jersey is popular. it's the highest selling jersey in the nfl since the league started keeping track in 2006. the sticking points are til namely the income level for higher tax rates and what to do about the inheritance tax. congress is working tonight at finding some way to avert the so-called fiscal cliff. the usual complaints have not ended, each side casting blame on the other. the vice president came back from delaware to talk with senator mitch mcconnell. they are expected to negotiate on the phone throughout the night. >> willing to work with whoever, whoever can help. there's no single issue that remains an impossible sticking point. >> none of the votes we'll be

casting today have anything to do with the fiscal cliff we face in slightly more than 24 hours. we're here and ready. >> congress will work through tomorrow, with republicans likely insisting more spending cuts be included. budget cuts are at the department of defense also in the cross hairs, raising new concerns about national security. fox's peter doocy looks at what it could mean. >> reporter: senator lindsey graham told me this morning his phone rang saturday night and was the defense secretary calling saying he was told the bill to avoid the fiscal cliff will not avoid anything for sequestration. so he'll need to write 800 layoff notices to contractors. >> if the president doesn't deal with this, he's a lousy commander-in-chief. if there's a deal done that

doesn't set aside the defense cuts, we've already cut out of the it was department, then i'm disappointed in the president as commander-in-chief and the republican party for allowing this possible a party. >> reporter: sequestration is designed to be painful. it was imposed by congress on itself when the super committee didn't work it out. president obama said today the cuts can be offset by raising taxes on the rich. >> we have raised revenue by the wealthy paying a little bit more, then that would be sufficient to turn off the automatic spending cuts, and that also would have a better outcome for our economy long- term. >> reporter: senator graham told me he thinks it's possible to find $600 billion in cuts elsewhere to spare the department of defense the next decade. but he thinks a bipartisan

agreement can't be reached until february or march. small business owners are especially afraid their bottom line with suffer. economists say businesses are holding back on spending money and for slowly strengthening economy, a shock to spend less could push the country back into a recession. >> businesses aren't hiring at the pace we would expect, because small businesses say we can't hire until we know what the tax system is going to look like, and what our tax bill will be in 2013. >> economists say consumers will have less cash to put back in the economy. gary is telling us what to expect. >> thanks a lot. wind has calmed down. but it's cold out there. one of the coldest nights of the season so far. your complete forecast is straight ahead. stay with us.

how about that wind? had sunshine, but had gusts over 50 miles per hour. calmed down. the gustiness of the wind has diminished. 33 in town now.

gaithersburg is 28. culpeper, 23 degrees. manassas, 25. get the wind down to about 5 miles per hour or so. skies relatively clear, allowing temperatures to cool off. a little bit of a breeze out still. in most cases, probably about 8 to 12 miles per hour. until you have windchill values, feels like 25 in town. feels like 17 for culpeper. hagerstown 19. that fluctuates back and forth, depending on the temperature. we are clear now. you can see there is a little bit of cloudiness working in our direction. i don't think this makes us cloudy, but brings across clouds. temperatures will be allowed to fall off tonight. looks like tomorrow morning, wake up with a little bit of cloudiness and some places. cloudy by tomorrow afternoon. won't worry about the snow. dry new year's eve and looks

like for the most part, still continues to show new year's day mainly dry. snowflake or two across the mountains here. looks like most of this moisture will stay to the south of us. again, nothing more than a passing snowflake or passing sprinkle. even with the clouds and limited sunshine on new year's, the lower 40s. not warm, but not incredibly cold. more sunshine on wednesday. we stay chilly, upper 30s there. overnight, mostly cloudy skies. few clouds, too. really cold, especially in the suburbs. 27 here in town. notice frederick, 16. hagerstown, 17. culpeper, colder than that. manassas 27. fredericksburg 30. tomorrow we warm up. some places stay in the 30s with the clouds coming in. we should get into the lower to mid-40s before it gets too cloudy. cold to start. 45degrees tomorrow for a high. new year's eve looks good. cloudy, but dry. temperatures dropping into the
